Sixpence Coin (6d)
Sixpences or Tanners as they used to be known are a well-known symbol of good luck whether it be an ingredient in the Christmas pudding, or being part of the brides ‘Something Old, Something New’ tradition, and it remains an RAF tradition to this day that sixpences are sewn behind pilot’s wings on their uniform. The sixpence design has changed three times since 1959 with each monarch’s reign.
From 1926 to 1936 they featured a design of six oak sprigs divided by six acorns, 1937 to 1952 featured a crown royal cypher, and from 1953 onwards they displayed a floral design of a rose, thistle, shamrock and leek.
We make jewellery from Sixpence coins minted between 1930 to 1970.
Colour finish: Silver. Diameter: 19.4mm.

-
- Birthdays, Anniversaries, Weddings, Father’s Day, Christmas, Graduations, Retirement, ‘just because’ or in memory at funerals.
They are also a sentimental present gifted to thousands of nervous grooms on their wedding day with a coin from a year special to them placed at the centre of the clip.
Whether you, or the recipient, are money clip connoisseurs or you’ve always used clips to keep your banknotes together, these make the perfect ‘born in 1959 gifts’ or ‘married in 1959 gifts’.
Money clips are a streamlined way to compactly hold your banknotes and business cards in one place. They can be used as business card holders just as readily as for bank notes.
1959 65th Birthday Gifts
These 1959 birth year money clips make the best 65th birthday gifts, for a couple of reasons:
For birthdays, the coins used are exactly as old as the recipient who was born in 1959, therefore are a meaningful and thoughtful present. In addition, older coins often bring back memories of the ‘good old days’ and lots of conversations about happy childhoods are evoked by seeing the ‘old money’ once again.
1959 65th Anniversary Gifts
Are you or your partner, husband, friend or relative celebrating 64 years of marriage? Show them how much you love them with a personalised money clip, which would make a wonderful Wedding Anniversary gift.
In Memory Jewellery
Like the increasingly popular ‘Ashes Jewellery’, our jewellery can also poignantly signify the birth year and memory of a loved one that has now passed away, such as a parent, grandparent or in memory of your friend. A touching and subtle way to always have them ‘with you’. Keep them close by, subtly having a reminder of their birth year in your pocket.
